Guide to Selecting a Designer
When you go to select a good design firm if you make your needs clear, ask questions, and follow a few basic guidelines; your experience should be favorable & the end result would be getting the website you envision.
-
Think about what you need and want. Look around the Web or in magazines and make notes about what you like or dislike; colors, styles, graphics, fonts, animations, navigation. You may not be an expert in graphic design, but you ARE an expert in your business: you will ultimately judge the quality of your project by the same criteria you use to evaluate your other business relationships. Think of your Web publications as an extension of other forms of communication and advertising that you may be using. You want them all to be clear, concise, consistent, and professional.
- Make sure
that the designer is competent in all aspects of the relevant
technologies: many people have quickly learned the basic skills
required to create and publish rudimentary graphics and web pages.
However, if your design firm is not skilled in both graphic design
and computer programming along with a high degree of Internet
knowledge and artistic ability, you will be short changed and
disappointed in the long run.
- If the design firm you select does not listen, get another one! Your investment is too important for you to put up with stuffy artists or unprofessional designers. You do have a choice! With Internet facilitated communication you can literally do business with any design firm in the world, so don’t settle for less than you deserve
